DOLPHIN SAFARIS

Swimming with dolphins is one of the most commonly found items on “bucket lists” – something everyone would like to do.  Our crew and dive guides are dolphin specialists, some might say obsessives, and we know where to find dolphins who enjoy the company of divers, freedivers and swimmers.

By visiting the dolphins from a liveaboard, we can get close to the dolphins before the other boats arrive, with our Dolphin Watch starting 15 minutes before sunrise every day.  We can then get in and swim with the dolphins while no-one else is around, using our zodiac to make sure we are in the best spot.

We take you to reefs where we know the resident dolphins and regularly interact with them. In the North, around reefs such as the horse-shoe shaped Abu Nuhas, we usually see Bottle-Nosed Dolphins, sometimes pods of 15-20 at a time.  Further South, in places such as Cloudy Reef, we are more likely to see Spinner Dolphins and larger pods, sometimes of more than 50 at a time. These are also good sites to spot enormous Napoleon Wrasse and Turtles.

Some days, we join the dolphins and they swim up to us and twist and turn around us blowing bubbles and chattering away. On other days, the dolphins are more shy and we swim together gently around the lagoon, watching in amazement at how easily they move through the water.

We completely respect the dolphins, turtles, fish and all marine life that we see. We touch nothing and take nothing. We never crowd or chase the dolphins. On days that they don’t want to play, we can still watch and enjoy their behaviour. These are wild animals who choose to spend time with us and we must respect their space so when they indicate they want to stop we leave. This way they know we are safe for them and their young to interact with. On one of our Dolphin Safaris a guest watched a calf being born!

We cannot guarantee the presence of dolphins. These are wild animals and so unpredictable but we use our knowledge of them and expertise to give you the best chance of seeing and interacting with dolphins in their natural environment.

Dolphin safaris are open to divers, freedivers and non-divers who would like to swim with dolphins. Children are also welcome to join us on a Dolphin Safari as long as they are confident swimmers.

Many people take the opportunity to learn to dive whilst they are with us. Its very easy and you can gain your first level diving qualification in 3-4 days. Then you too can see the reef the way the dolphins do.

Our next Dolphin Safaris are planned for 29th April to 6th May 2023 and 27th May to 3rd June 2023.
